Cooking up Something Good

Viking Cooking School Manager Chan Patterson demonstrates her technique.

Today the Viking Cooking School, along with its partners Riverwood Home Appliances and Everyday Gourmet, will open its doors to the public. The grand opening is from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., with cooking demonstrations, food tasting and drawings for cooking classes.

Recently, I had the opportunity to visit the school at its Ridgeland location and had immediate kitchen envy. With stainless steel six- and eight-burner cook tops, double-wall ovens and professional-size refrigerators, it's an ideal space to inspire culinary creativity among the most timid of home cooks.

I cooked alongside Chan Patterson, manager of the new school, as we prepared pan-fried salmon dumplings. The recipe was just a sampling of the types of dishes students can expect to make in one of its classes.

The Viking Cooking School offers a vast array of hands-on classes and cooking demonstrations. Classes range from barbeque basics, pasta, pizza and even gingerbread house making. On the calendar, they have a Girls Night Out, and kids and teen classes—something for everyone in the family. And if you're looking to do a team building event for your company, hold a special celebration with family and friends or create a unique birthday party, the Viking Cooking School can help you plan an event to suit your needs.

I've already signed up for classes to spend a special day with my son. No matter your cooking skill level, check out the Viking Cooking School. Grab a friend, your mom or even a date, and enjoy an adventure in cooking.

The Viking Cooking School is located at the Township at Colony Park, 1107 Highland Colony Parkway, Suite 115, Ridgeland. Registration is available online, or call 601-898-8345.
