Winter Chick Jam | Jackson Free Press | Jackson, MS

Winter Chick Jam

After the success of our first Chick Jam in the summer, the Jackson Free Press is hosting Winter Chick Jam on Dec. 4 at 8 p.m. with performances by folk band Fedora Welty, punk rockers Party Dots and indie-rock band Law School.

Photography by Party Dots' bass player Daphne Nabors, wood-burning art and clothing by Chrissy Valentine, and paintings by InkSpot tattoo artist Erica Flannes will be on display.

All proceeds from the event go to support the Center for Violence Prevention. The CVP is a private, nonprofit organization that provides support and services for women and their children involved in domestic violence situations. So far this year, the CVP has answered 450 crisis calls, housed 54 adult women clients and 80 children (including all related services), and assisted 34 non-shelter clients with case management, therapy, and other services. To learn more about the CVP or how you can help visit its Web site at http://www.mscvp.org.

The Chick Jam is an offshoot of the annual JFP Chick Ball. These events strive to bring together community leaders, artists, musicians, educators and citizens to both focus attention on women's artistry, and provide support for domestic violence prevention and awareness efforts in the Jackson metro area.

All, I have to get out of the office and head to Chick Jam at Hal & Mal's. Join us if you can. And thanks to everyone for just downright amazing conversation all week. The site and threads were on fire! Cheers, all.
