Longtime Jackson favorite Nick's Restaurant is re-opening Saturday, Jan. 2 in a new mixed-use development at 3000 Old Canton Road in Fondren. After 26 years on Lakeland Drive in Jackson, owner Nick Apostle decided to move his namesake restaurant when he realized it would be cheaper than closing for three months while he renovated the old location.
Since making that decision earlier this year, he has begun to see additional benefits.
"Quite frankly, I feel like it's even a better location," Apostle said. "We have outdoor seating at this location. We'll have the propensity for walk-in traffic that we did not enjoy at our Lakeland location."
Following a private seating for longtime patrons New Year's Eve, the new restaurant will open to the public Jan. 2. A Jackson native of Greek heritage, Apostle says Nick's revamped menu will bear a stronger Mediterranean influence while still preserving old favorites.
The new space, while roughly comparable in size to the Lakeland location, gave Apostle greater freedom in designing the interior. The Fondren restaurant will boast a bigger bar and a more intimate dining area. Apostle estimates that the restaurant will seat 152 patrons indoors and another 26-30 outdoors. With a more central location, Apostle also plans to offer Nick's bar menu throughout the day in the hopes of capturing more business between the lunch and dinner hours.
"The Fondren community is just alive, full of energy," Apostle said. "It's just a vibrant part of this town. I'm just excited to be right up in it."
Nick's is open for lunch Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and for dinner Monday through Thursday, 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Closed Sundays. For information, call 601-981-8017.

Can't wait to see the new additions to the menu. The Apostles are great people, and Nick's certainly is a staple of Jackson cuisine.
