The Basic Home Bar

Alcohol/spirits: whiskey*, gin, light rum, tequila, orange liqueur, vodka, cocktail bitters, dry vermouth, sweet vermouth, champagne, white wine and red wine.

Mixers and garnish: cola, lemon-lime soda, cranberry juice, orange juice, soda water (seltzer), ginger ale, grenadine, simple syrup, ice, cherries, green olives, superfine sugar, kosher salt, lemon and lime wedges.

Bar Tools: bar jigger, bar strainer, cocktail shaker, pitcher with stirring rod, corkscrew, cutting board, paring knife, ice bucket with tongs, stirrers and napkins.

Glassware: cocktail and highball glasses (champagne flutes are a good option, too).

*Whiskey goes by various names based on how and where it was made. American whiskeys include Kentucky Bourbon and Tennessee whiskey. There are also several international whiskeys like Scotch that is distilled in Scotland. Other varieties include Irish, Indian, German, Finnish and Canadian. Try different varieties until you find your favorite.
