I have been coming to Jackson for about two years now, and I mean on a regular bases. In the last year I have only had one weekend away from here. Since my girlfriend and many of my friends live here, I make the hour and a half drive every friday from Monroe, Louisiana. I know Jackson almost as well as Monroe, and I never feel like I am away from home when I am here. I have grown to love my king size bed in the hotel I am staying at for the two months here. While my girlfriend did an internship at JFP, I became very interested in doing the same. I know many colleges require a person to do one for credit before you can graduate. Well, I have to do a practicum, have this many hours, blah blah blah. I decided to do this internship for the experience, and not for credit.
When I talk to people at the university I attend (ULM) about their internships it is nothing compared to what I have already experienced. I have done interviews, photos, column, the ward stories, did an extensive search on where stores get food and clothes and where they go, a book review and a story on an event and now a music review. I just got the band I will be reviewing, and it is The Vidrines from Monroe, La. One of the vocalist for the band taught English at the high school I attended. That is more then I expected in the first month, in a good way. Next Wednesday I am going back to Philly, South Jersey and New York. I haven't been on any major vacations this summer, and even though I go twice a year for family, I am very excited to get out of the 102 degree weather.

Yes, the sales tax is incredibly high. When I come for the weekend, I buy groceries in Jackson so I don't have to pay in Monroe.
