Southern Miss made history on Sunday by winning a spot in the College World Series. Meanwhile, Ole Miss continued its unfortunate history of losing at home in a Super Regional.
USM rallied from a 6-1 deficit to defeat Florida, 7-6, and complete a sweep of the Gators in the Gainesville Super Regional. The Golden Eagles ensured that Corky Palmer will coach at least for another week. Palmer, who announced his retirement in April (he was pushed, folks), effective at the end of the season, has led USM to Omaha, Neb., for the first time in school history.
Ole Miss proved that Omaha really does stand for "Ole Miss At Home Again." The Rebels wet their pants again, losing to Virginia, 5-1, in the decisive third game of the Oxford Super Regional. The Rebels lost at home in the Super Regional for the third time in five seasons. And this time some hard questions are being asked about Rebel Coach Mike Bianco's strategy.

GO EAGLES!!!!!!!!!!! I have never been so proud of a team as I was last night the way they withstood the 6-1 deficit and whittled away at Florida way down there on Florida's home turf. And that double play that ended the game in the top of the 9th knocked me over. This is a special team. And what they are doing to give USM national attention is extraordinary. GO EAGLES!!!!!!!!!!
