Officers from the Jackson Police Department and the Mississippi Department of Wildlife captured an alligator in a garage on Ashley Circle in Ward 2 early this morning, police said.
Shortly after 2 a.m., "we got a call from a citizen stating that there was an alligator in their garage," Officer Darryl Stasher said.
Stasher and fellow JPD officers Daniel Rushing, Jeffie Tatum and Tyrone Robinson arrived at the residence and saw the alligator's snout sticking out from under the driver's door of a white Dodge 300.
The police immediately contacted the wildlife department, and Officer Dell Bell arrived around 2:30 a.m. and got the alligator to move. Police then moved the Dodge and another vehicle out of the garage, and Bell "wrestled" the alligator until Stasher was able to tape its mouth shut. Bell then took the animal away.
Stasher said Bell spent 35 to 40 minutes at the residence and had to "jump on" the alligator twice.
"It took awhile to get [the gator] under control," Stasher said.
Bell was not available for comment.
