There's something profoundly moving about listening to an artist express themselves, revealing his or her hidden self through art. Not only is the experience rewarding for the listener, but it's cathartic for the writer. These emotions bubble to the surface during the Writer's Spotlight, organized by JFP writer Janine Jankovitz and held in intimate locations across Jackson. Writers bring their words—some perform them, others simply read—and share a small piece of their craft with other artists. If you haven't been to the Commons at Eudora Welty's Birthplace, you should definitely attend this event, which lends itself well to its historic backdrop. E-mail [e-mail missing].

What a great surprise! Maggie, thank you so much for covering this event. I am very grateful to the Jackson community for supporting The Writer's Spotlight since our first event last fall of 2008. Jackson is filled with talented, enthusiastic writers and I am honored that they come to share their work at the Spotlight. I am grateful as well to all those in the community that come to support the writers and hear their work. I am looking forward to seeing everyone at the third Spotlight this Saturday night! Thank you to everyone once again, Janine Julia Jankovitz

I'm actually TRYING some fiction for this which is the direction I'm having to go with the humor. Can't wait! This is my first, but hopefully not the last. Great resource for those not-ready-for-prime-time ;) BTW. Can I be rude, crude and socially unacceptable? I'm more Hannah than Welty these days ;)

Emily, I hope you're rude, crude, and socially unacceptable because rude, crude, and socially unacceptable humorous fiction seems to be my subgenre too... ;o) I can't wait to hear it! This month folks will be treated to the long-awaited sequel to the Reversible Detective, Part 1. Though I'm working on a more serious piece for next month...
