Allen and Others To Host McLemore Reception

Jackson City Council President Dr. Leslie McLemore says Jackson needs the funds the new sales tax will generate.

Acting Mayor Leslie McLemore will soon retire from both academia and politics. In honor of his work and dedication to the city of Jackson, Ben Allen, President of Downtown Jackson Partners, is hosting a reception and fundraiser for McLemore Tuesday, June 30, at the University Club of Jackson.

Beginning at 5:30 p.m., the celebration will serve as a benefit for The Fannie Lou Hamer National Institute on Citizenship and Democracy, which McLemore founded.

"It has been an absolute honor and joy, for me personally, to have served alongside Leslie for years, and really get to know him," said Allen, former Ward 1 councilman. "He is the real deal.
