[Verbatim from CARA] Today, CARA was impacted by the extreme heat everyone in the Jackson area is experiencing. "We need three 40" box fans to add to the shelter to keep the air moving and the dogs cool," says Janet Madden, CARA Shelter Manager. "Another of our fans quit working today, and the loss of several fans over the past two weeks is making it difficult to ventilate the shelter." The fans CARA needs can be found at local home improvement stores and measure approximately four feet square.
In addition, the Community Animal Rescue & Adoption, Inc., (CARA) shelter at 960 North Flag Chapel Road in west Jackson is filled to the brim with unwanted, abused and stray dogs and cats who deserve a safe, loving place to call home. That's what Jackson's largest no-kill animal shelter is to these pets until a permanent home is found for them. The hardest fact those working at the shelter are enduring is the fact that CARA's money is running out, and if the metro Jackson community does not step forward to help, the shelter's doors will close very shortly.
"No one wants to see the CARA shelter close, says Jerri Bennett, Executive Director, "but the fact of the matter is that it takes $1,000 a day to operate the shelter and properly care for the animals." Bennett explains further,"CARA operates solely on individual donations. We receive no federal, state, county or city funding at all. Consequently, every time our funds run low, we are forced to send out a plea to the community for help. We are blessed that the wonderful people in the Jackson area love CARA and always come through for us."
The CARA Board of Directors and staff are asking everyone in Jackson to spread the word about the great work that is being done by CARA and encourage family and friends to make a donation to the shelter immediately. Those who would like to, may donate online at http://www.carams.org, call the shelter at 601-922-7575, or go by the shelter at 960 North Flag Chapel Road.
