2009 JFP Interview with Melton, Part I
Updated
MSNBC is reporting that Jackson Mayor Frank Melton has another outstanding tax bill on his 2 Carters Grove home.
For 2008, the mayor owes more than $13,000 to Hinds County for his Jackson home. That includes a 1 percent penalty for not paying by Feb. 1.
Last May the Jackson Free Press reported that Melton was four months delinquent in his 2007 property taxes. He apparently paid that bill days before the August deadline when the county could have seized the property and put it up for auction.
Melton has more problems in Texas, according to the MSNBC story:
The situation there seems worse. According to the Smith County Tax Collector, the mayor's home in Flint is already up for tax sale. He owes taxes from 2007 and 2008 for a total amount of $13,228.
Jackson-based Omni Bank filed a federal lawsuit against Melton's wife, Ellen. The bank claims the Meltons took out a $300,000 home equity line of credit in April 2007.
According to the lawsuit, the Meltons never purchased flood insurance for their Jackson home -- a violation of the contract. The bank now wants them to pay back $294,000 plus attorney fees of nearly $30,000 and interest on a flood insurance policy that he bank purchased for the home.

Melton needs to resign now if can't pay taxes on his home. After just declaring that the city is in the best financial shape ever, those words are even more unbelievable now.

I never believed him when he said that, GE. If we are in such great shape, we should have more police officers on well-paved streets and fully-staffed city departments. Do we have that? NO! Let's face it - he won't retire. Too stubborn. He'll have to be dragged out kicking and screaming, even if he loses the May primary.

When you do wrong wrong will come to you! Melton forgot the old words of wisdom, "Do unto others as you want done to you". I can tell you now that Melton is reaping what he sowed. He has not only destroy his reputation but has embrassed his family and damaging his wife financial well being also. When is enough is enough? Melton look at the lives you have destroyed all because of your ego. It's just not worth it! Is it worth fighting for your image while because of your actions you are causing people to be homeless? What happen to the man that stop a bus because he love children so much when he is hurting the children and families of people that work and supported him? Melton is relying on using his media skill to stay in the lime light in order to again influence possible juries for his up coming trial. Recio, go and made a deal for you and your family and the hell with Melton!!!!

I heard that Recio's home is in foreclosure. That's sad because Melton is taking down everyone around him, whether he or they realize it or not.

I wonder who's paying Cynthia Stewart. Remember that Robert Smith and Winston Thompson never got paid for defending bodyguards in the state trial.

Ladd you are correct Robert Smith and Winston Thompson never got paid although Melton said he would pay them. This is how Melton operates, Melton think the he is God's Gift to Black people and we are to serve him. He never paid me or others people he owed money because he was the great Frank Melton. "BULL" Melton force, intimidate and con Recio and Wright into violating the law and then he tried to get several of us to lie for him in order to cover this matter up. Melton knew exactly what he was doing and he had no intentions of ever paying these men legal bill. Please people don't think Melton is broke. Knowing Melton he has hid his nest egg while he watches people suffer because of him. I wish I was financially able to help Recio and his family out of this situation but again Melton also hung me out to dry. But that another story that will be public soon!!!!

Hey we better jump behind this and help Frankie out. If the house goes up for auction it might get purchased by someone who wants to rent the house out. Then you get "who knows who" moving in there and the next thing you know it'll be a crack-house and the mayor and some kids will have to bust in there and knock it down. Gotta stop the cycle - that's the bottom line!
