Bill Funds Cybercrime Unit

Attorney General Jim Hood is hot on Entergy's trail.

Yesterday, legislators sent Senate Bill 2978 to Gov. Haley Barbour for his signature, which will increase by $1 fines for certain misdemeanors and felonies by $1 to help fund the attorney general's cybercrime unit, reports wmctv.com.

Senate Judiciary B Committee Chairman Gray Tollison says the increased fines should generate up to $500,000 a year for the unit that tracks and prosecutes Internet crimes, including child pornography.

Attorney General Jim Hood says the unit had been receiving federal funding but that money is no longer available.

This sounds like a workable bill. I hope that the Gov. will sign. I think that what the bill is expected to generate in only one year is severely overrated! $500,000, PLEASE.
