Jacksonians are paying roughly $2.62 for a gallon of regular, currently the lowest gas price in the nation.

Filling your tank this holiday weekend will cost you a bit more than it did earlier this month. Still, compared to the same time last year, gasoline is still relatively cheap.

GasBuddy.com reports that the price for a gallon of regular gasoline is as low as $2.13 a gallon in some areas. In Jackson, prices are a bit higher, bumping up close to $2.30 at some stations. The average in the state is $2.25.

Nationally, the current average for a gallon of regular is $2.362. That's nearly $1.45 cheaper than a year ago, according to AAA, when the average was $3.807. The nation's highest price per gallon is about $2.71. Last year's record high was $4.114 set July 17.
