The Best In Sports In 7 Days

Thursday, May 28
Southern League baseball, Mississippi at Birmingham (7:05 p.m., Hoover, Ala., 103.9 FM): The M-Braves, the SL South's worst team, continue their series with the Barons, the SL South's best team.

Friday, May 29
College baseball, Monmouth at Ole Miss in NCAA Oxford Regional (7 p.m., Oxford, 97.3 FM): The Rebels begin NCAA play without their best pitcher, Scott Bittle. … Southern Miss vs. Elon in NCAA Atlanta Regional (2 p.m., Atlanta): The Golden Eagles have already pulled an upset just by getting into the NCAA field. Check your local listings to see if the Rebels and/or Eagles will be playing on TV.

Saturday, May 30
Roller derby, Magnolia Roller Vixens Roller Derby Carnival (11 a.m., Clinton National Guard Armory): The Vixens and Biloxi scrimmage at 1 p.m., plus music, food and games. A showdown between the JFP's Donna Ladd and 16-WAPT's Dawn Dugle will also take place. The Doctor would definitely pay to see that. Proceeds from the event benefit the JFP Chick Ball.

Sunday, May 31
Southern League baseball: West Tenn at Mississippi (1:05 p.m., Pearl, 103.9 FM): The M-Braves return to the friendly confines of Trustmark Park to begin a series with the Diamond Jaxx.

Monday, June 1
Movie, "The Kid From Spain" (11:45 a.m., TCM): Eddie Cantor plays an innocent accused of robbery that disguises himself as a bullfighter. Hilarity theoretically ensues in this politically incorrect early talkie.

Tuesday, June 2
Motor sports, Tuesday night madness (Jackson Dragway Park, Byram): The events include the $10 "Run Wat U Brung."

Wednesday, June 3
Southern League baseball, West Tenn at Mississippi (7:05 p.m., Pearl, 103.9 FM): The M-Braves and Diamond Jaxx tangle on Babe Ruth Educational Magazines Night at Trustmark Park.

The Slate is compiled by Doctor S, who can't wait to see Donna Ladd on the track.
