'Nuff said about that, right? Kick off the weekend right by joining the JFP gang at Hal & Mal's tonight for another (in)famous version of Southern Fried Karaoke. It's a triple-threat birthday version tonight starting at 9 p.m., celebrating Donna Ladd's, Todd Stauffer's and Lacey McLaughlin's birthdays. We know the iTodd can carry a tune. Come find out if anyone else can.
Before the party, check out the free Jackson Arts Collective's fall showcase starting at 5 p.m. at the Commons Gallery, then head to the OUToberfest free social at Julep at 7 p.m. You also have time for dinner and a movie, "The Age of Stupid," at 7:30 p.m., at Rainbow Co-op in Fondren. This independently produced and distributed film looks back from 2055 to ask why we didn't respond to climate change in time. Find even more stuff to do on the JFP Events Calendar.
In case you missed it, that big Ferris wheel lighting up the night sky means the Mississippi State Fair is in town. Saturday, grab the kids or a bunch of friends and head to the midway. Counter the effects of fair food by stocking up at any of the farmer's markets. Choose from the Mississippi Farmers Market, Greater Belhaven Market, Congress Street Market or the JHREP Farmers' Market near the Jackson Medical Mall.
If the fair's not your thing, there are dozens of other options. Start looking on the Best Bets page.
Saturday night, treat your honey to some fine dining. Schimmel's Restaurant in Fondren is offering a complimentary bottle of wine when you purchase two entrees between 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. That's only one of the many options you'll find in the JFP Restaurant Listings and the Menu Guide. After dinner, head to the Jackson Convention Complex for the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra and "The Movie Magic of John Williams." Of course, Jackson has more live music to choose from, from rock 'n' roll, to country, blues, and ... well, you name it, and it's bound to be in the JFP Music Listings. Don't miss Melissa Ferrick, Eric Himan & the Adams, Baron, Josh Duffy, Emily White, the MissiHIPPY Dancers and more at the OUToberbest Concert at Hal & Mal's.
Sunday and brunch just go together, and Jacktown and environs give you plenty of choices. There's the Auditorium, Julep and Pan Asia in Ridgeland, just to name a few. Head back to the JFP Events Calendar for plenty of happenings, including Eudora Welty's "Merriment on the Midway" photos at the Mississippi Museum of Art. Or, take in a movie after checking the
JFP Movie Finder.
OK. Last time (I'm lying). Do you have your "I Get It Once A Week" T-shirt yet? You don't? Well, it's time to get yourself to the JFP Swag Store and get you one.
Is something missing? Make sure your event is listed on the JFP calendars by sending the information to [e-mail missing] or [e-mail missing], or add your event yourself. It's easy!
