With attendance nearly rained out during the regular run of the Mississippi State Fair, organizers extended the run on Friday, hoping to make up some of their expected revenue. Attendance today, Oct. 19, is discounted, with parking, rides and foods priced at $2.
At least some rain fell every day for the first 10 days of the fair, leading to a 35 percent drop in proceeds, organizers told WAPT. "The State Fair is the largest fundraiser/revenue generator for the State Fair Commission," Executive Director Billy Orr said. "The State Fair does not get any funding from the state. It is a special fund agency, which must generate its own funds. The fair generated about $2.5 million last year."
