Ever feel the need to cut up and act like a damn Yankee? You'll get your chance tonight at Sophia's, located in the Fairview Inn in Belhaven, starting at 6:30 p.m. For a mere $39, you can enjoy a traditional New England-style clambake with the Dillionaires playing in the background. Tonight is also opening night for the newest Fondren Theatre Workshop production of "The Monster Monologues" at The Cedars beginning at 8 p.m. If you'd rather get up than hunker down, head over to Touch Nightclub where DJ Icey will be spinning starting at 10 p.m. For details and more stuff to do, go to Best Bets
Make room in your fridge on Saturday, then head to the Mississippi Farmer's Market which will officially join with the Greater Belhaven Market to kick off their Fall Harvest Fest at 8 a.m. Entry is free, but making a difference by shopping locally is priceless. Speaking of which, Saturday is the 19th annual Make a Difference Day. If you've been thinking about volunteering or contributing to the community in other ways, think about heading to the Ridgeland Library where they will be ending their Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale. They will be selling memberships at the door, and all proceeds directly help the location. See these events and more on the JFP Events Calendar
Saturday night, the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra will be playing Beethoven's best at "Bravo II: Beethoven, The Hero" at Thalia Mara Hall at 7:30 p.m. If highbrow isn't your thing, you'll find an amazing selection of musical options—from blues to rock to country, R&B and hip-hop—on the JFP Music Listings page. Make sure the sound of your date's growling stomach doesn't override the tunes, though. Find the perfect place for dinner (or plan your lunch excursion for Monday) on the JFP Restaurant Listings and the Menu Guide. And, because you can't go to any of these events naked (at least to my knowledge), get your very own "I Get It Once A Week" T-shirt at JFP Swag Store.
Keep that "making a difference" streak going Sunday by joining JFP staffers at the Metro Jackson Start! Heart Walk 3 miler. Registration begins at 1 p.m., and the walk steps off at 2 p.m. at the corner of Mississippi and North Congress streets. If you feel like taking it easy Sunday, visit one of the area's many galleries. Find information on exhibitions ranging from watercolors to photography and art glass on the JFP Gallery Listings. If all else fails, hide yourself away in one of the area movie houses. To see what's playing, visit the JFP Movie Finder.
Is something missing? Make sure your event is listed on the JFP calendars by sending the information to [e-mail missing] or [e-mail missing], or add your event yourself. It's easy!
