Looks like this is just now coming across the wires, with AP reporting Favre's apparent retirement:
Favre has informed the Vikings he will not return to Minnesota this fall, a person with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press on Tuesday.
The 40-year-old Favre called coach Brad Childress to say his injured ankle is not responding as well to surgery and rehabilitation as he had hoped, according to the person, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the team had not made an official announcement.
Favre had a hell of a final season, and it's tough to see him go out on an injury like that (especially considering he was one of two veteran QBs put out to pasture by the Saints in last year's playoff brawls), but he'll get his due for his combination of durability and the excitement he could generate. He was a home-run hitter who, like many Caseys-at-the-bat, also had a high strike-out ratio -- and it was just such an inopportune throw that ended his career in the NFL Championship game against the Saints.
For New Orleans, the news is probably good -- it makes that first game of the year (billed as a rematch and set for the Sunday Night Football opener) a little less of all all-out grudge-fest and a little more of a test of the Super Bowl champs' off-season prep against Minnesota's newly-put-together offensive schemes.

I'm not convinced he's retired either. I think he just doesn't want to go to training camp, like last year. Any other NFL player who did that would be raked over the coals.

GE: Interesting theory and one I didn't realize was going on until I got duped into this blog entry. You may indeed be correct... maybe he wanted more money and no training camp. That's awesome.

I've that the Vikings will offer Favre more money. He's also saying now that his return depends on his ankle. He's going to see Dr. Andrews in Birmingham next week. Dr. Andrews has become well known in dealing with sports injuries. He treated #1 draftee Sam Bradford after sustaining a shoulder injury last while playing for the Oklahoma Sooners.

I think golden eagle's right on. He's just delaying until he can get out of training camp. He nearly got his team to a Super Bowl last year and I don't think someone with his type of personality can give up now. Maybe he should for his quality of life after footbal but if he comes back, it sure won't be boring to watch.

Favre is back and is going to beat them Saints. The problem for both teams will be the Pittsburgh Steelers. I know our quarterback will miss 4 games due to depravity but once he's fixed and returns it will be number 7 for the steel city. Write it down and take it to the bank. Hopefully, a third woman isn't lurking somewhere.

Yup, my bad on Favre. Should have seen that coming. As for the Steelers - as far as I'm concerning, there at 31 teams in the league. The only thing you should be saying about that Zero Class QB in Pittsburgh is that he should sit down and stay there. The Steelers should help him by making it where he doesn't have a job anymore.

Boys and girls get drunk all the time and sex it up carelessly or contrary to what they would do if they were sober. My quarterback has apologized, got counseling and now declares he won't engage in any further sex unless the woman consents before witnesses or signs papers saying she consented. The woman didn't follow thru on the charges and Roughburger wasn't prosecuted. This says something about the facts of the case. Ben should do his dating in Pittsburgh where he is adored and revered. There are 2 sides to every story. When we get 3 or 4 more Super Bowl rings from Ben he will sit down and compare rings with the Cowboys, loosely argued the second greatest NFL team. Many would argued with the rank of second.

I'm not defending him, Todd. It's merely time to play ball. If the league is going to let him play why shouldn't we? You're sounding like a Cowboys' fan. Indeed Roughburger is ours and I heard he's throwing the ball better than ever. Play ball!!!!! "Turn out the lights, the party is over!" Wishing upon a star won't do you any good. 4 fo 4 fo 4 fo 4 and the Super Bowl.
