Real Estate Solutions Managing Broker Willis Finley is seeking donations from the community to help a Jackson family in need of home repairs and heat.
Two weeks ago, Finley stopped to help a young boy dodging traffic on Fortification Street. The boy requested a ride to a friend's house nearby, and when Willis arrived at the house, he met homeowner Frances Matthews, who is struggling to raise her nine grandchildren, ranging from 5 months old to 15. Willis noticed that several of the children lacked adequate clothing, and the home did not have any gas heat.
Over the past two weeks, Willis spearheaded efforts to raise funds to buy the family Christmas presents and new clothing. On Tuesday, he teamed with local businesses, and took the Fondren trolley to the family's home with Christmas gifts and Santa in tow. Willis says that his real-estate company has the people who can help with the home repairs, but needs donations to buy the materials.
"What this house really needs is monetary donations," he said. "They haven't had gas since 2006. The stove is gas, so they have been cooking on an electric burner and they have been using electric heaters to stay warm. We are a small company, and we can't afford to repair everything that needs to be done to the home."
To donate to the family, bring checks or cash to Lumpkins BBQ (182 Raymond Road), any area Century 21 office or Real Estate Solutions (3502 N. State St.) For more information, Call Willis at 601-573-9728, or e-mail him at [e-mail missing].
