As my second pro-Jackson piece was published this week in the JFP, more of my "friends" called me out for not staying true to who I am. Huh? I believe what they meant to say was true to who they think I am. It is true, judge if you want: I was a staffer during Governor Kirk Fordice's second term. I was a gung-ho right winger, well, I was gung at least. Not ashamed to admit it, I did to my boss at the time, that I voted for Bill Clinton in his first bid for president. I am still not ashamed of that. But as a gunger, I voted for Dole the second time around. I was surrounded by those beliefs everyday and, heck, I was able to pay my bills because of it. I did believe it. I did live it but not enough to get the title of being gung ho, just gung.
Because I lean more to the conservative side, my conservative gung-hoers cannot see why I can have such a pro-Jackson stance. It is like I have fallen off the wagon and am now a card-carrying member of the left. Well, if you have read my two published pieces, I have been able to see more of their side (see http://tinyurl.com/lminsanity) to get the definition of "their" and "them." It is sad to me now that I look back at my introduction to them was, "they are the devil." I lost so much by not being able to see a smidgin of what they were/are.
You know what they say about opinions, right? Well, I believe that, but what has changed is that now I listen to all of them and digest them. That is what is important. I have seen the "other side," or shall I say listened and contemplated what they are saying. That is what we all have to do. Everyone of us. It is so much deeper in my mind than left and right. Heck, I almost think that the majority should be a happy medium, but who am I to say that?
I still lean toward conservative, but the scales are tipping toward something other than that. I do not know what that is right (no pun intended) now, but it is coming, and I will find my true self soon. Oh, between me, you and the wall, don't tell my conservative friends that along with my pro-Jackson stance I have embraced, I have friends who are gay and married (but not recognized by this state...shhhhhhhhh).

What correlation should there be between being a conservative and being a fan of Jackson?
