At my last doctor's appointment, I was told that I have high cholesterol at a total of 217. I'm am 26 and have had high cholesterol since I was 18. Bad genes? They gave me two months before a second appointment to try to deal with the problem on my own with a healthy lifestyle. I'm guessing if things still don't look so good by July 14th, they might put me on some sort of medication. I have enough pills to worry about on a daily basis between me and my two kids to have to remember yet another dose every day.
Since that last doctor's appointment, I almost completely cut out red meat, and I try to eat more fruits & vegetables. I started a membership at the Flowood YMCA. My goal each visit is to burn at least 200 calories and I try to do this in 30 minutes. And I started supplements - fish oil and red yeast rice - my grandmother swears by it. This all worked really well for the first month and then June happened. My family members birthdays are all compiled into June and July; this meant weekends in Natchez filled with burgers, cake and ice cream. I substituted veggie burgers on the new wheat deli flats (so good!). But, the cake, oh the cake -- there is no substitute for good cake. I'm such a sucker for sweets. This is my personal downfall. I also took a vacation to Colorado last week. We all know how hard it is to eat healthy on the road, but Denver and Boulder are filled with healthy restaurant choices. I can say that I feel good about how hard I've been trying. I hope I have better results at my appointment on Wednesday, the 14th.

Bad genes are the reasons for personal problems. Genes contribute to antisocial behavior, but that doesn't provide an acceptable excuse for stealing cars.
