Citizens on the City of Jackson's Surface Water System may be experiencing low water pressure or no water at all this morning as crews work to repair a major 54-inch water main that is connected to the O.B. Curtis Water Treatment Plant this morning.
City Crews began receiving calls during the early morning hours of June 24 that low water pressure was occurring in portions of the city. After investigation, crews discovered that a 54-inch water main supplying water from the O.B. Curtis Water Treatment Plant was leaking a significant volume of water. This water line is the main source of water from the Treatment Plant. As a result of this, several of the city's water tanks are not at the proper capacity.
Crews are working to identify whether this is a break in the water main or whether a cap on the main has come off.
Since the system has lost pressure in certain areas, the city of Jackson is issuing a Precautionary Boil Water Notice for all customers on the Surface Water System until further notice.
The system should recover as this 54-inch main is repaired.
THIS NOTICE DOES NOT AFFECT CUSTOMERS SERVED BY JACKSON'S WELL WATER SYSTEM.
This is a precautionary advisory. All customers are advised to boil their drinking water until adequate pressure is restored to the system. Water should be brought to a rolling boil for one minute for the following: cooking or baking, making ice cubes, taking medication, brushing teeth, washing food, mixing baby formula or food, mixing juices or drinks feeding pets, and all other consumption. Water does not have to be boiled for the following activities: showering, washing dishes or clothes.
The City of Jackson is also issuing a citywide Emergency Water Conservation Notice. Residents and businesses are asked to conserve water as much as possible until the necessary repairs are made on the water main.
