Song Cycles, featuring Horse Trailer, Furrows and The Secret Miracles is at Hal & Mal's on Saturday.

Start your weekend off on a musical note. The numerous options tonight include ArtRemix at the Mississippi Museum of Art kicking off at 5 p.m.; $20. Tonight is also the annual Pepsi Pops Concert with the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra on the reservoir at Old Trace Park. Gates open at 4:30 p.m., with entertainment before the main event at 7:30 p.m. and a fireworks finale; $15, $5 students. Or stick with downtown for "Can't Feel My Face Friday" at Dreamz Jxn starting at 9 p.m., with free drinks (!) until 11 p.m. Where should you begin your search for the perfect entertainment options? The JFP Best Bets page is great place to start.

Here's a great reason to roll out of bed early Saturday: Fresh fruits and veggies, and other hand-crafted food and gift items at the Greater Belhaven Market on the site of the Mississippi Farmers Market, or the Jackson Roadmap to Health Equity Project's Farmer's Market near the Jackson Medical Mall. Both open at 8 a.m. Saturday is also your last chance to make or find the perfect Mother's Day gift. Try your hand at jewelry making at Dream Beads in Fondren with a free class from 10 a.m. to noon, or head to World Fair Trade Day at Fair Trade Handicrafts (2807 Old Canton Road) for a unique gift basket and a chance to win a door prize. Dozens of other Saturday happenings await you on the JFP Events Calendar.

Put on your dancing shoes Saturday night and head for one of the many live musical performances around town. Whether your taste runs to country, R&B, rock 'n' roll, hip-hop or dancing the night away with your favorite deejay spinning, you won't find a more complete list of choices than on the JFP Music Listings. Just a quick sampling includes the Robert Johnson Birthday Celebration at The Auditorium with a stellar lineup including Super Chikan, Eddie Cotton and more; Song Cycles with Horse Trailer, Furrows and The Secret Miracles at Hal & Mal's; and Kamikaze & Yardboy at Cultural Expressions.

On Sunday, make sure you're doing the cooking and the cleanup for Mom, or, better yet, head to one of the Jackson area's fine restaurants and leave it all to someone else. The Old Capitol Inn is hosting a Mother's Day Brunch at 11 a.m. (reservations required; $27.95). You'll find many more choices on the JFP Restaurant Listings and in the Menu Guide. After lunch, head for the Jackson Zoo, where Moms get a special gift and a free all-day pass.
