Jackson Free Press

Gas stations in the city of Jackson are selling fuel at the lowest average rate in the nation: $2.62 per gallon, according to the Lundberg Survey. Over the past two weeks, prices at the pump have dropped 9.25 cents, reports USA Today. San Francisco is reporting the highest per gallon price in the country at $3.10. Overall, gas prices today are about 40 cents higher than one year ago.

I don't know how Jackson captured that spot. Up until three days ago, I have paid from $3.00 - $3.07/gallon. This is premium and maybe it was not included in the study.

I normally go to jacksongasprices.com, but that's still a good site though. I didn't think Laurel would be so cheap. I remember Hattiesburg used to have some of the best prices in the state. This was back in the 90s.

To tell you the truth, I'm really surprised the oil spill in the Gulf hasn't affected the price of crude oil. If this would've happened two years ago when crude oil and gas prices were out of control, prices would've soared even higher. BTW, can the spilled oil still be refined into gas?

Golden- Deepwater Horizon was a reserve well, it was going to be capped anyway. It's not being a production well, is the reason I assume it hasn't effected gas prices.

It's probably a political decision to not raise prices. If the masses believed they started having to pay higher gas prices because of the BP accident, people would turn violent probably. Especially towards BP gas stations. If "supply & demand" increased because of neglectful maintanience by the oil company that lead to such a f-up or something else that should have been prevented, people would take it a little more personally, probably.
