Standard Life Re-opens Today

The Jackson City Council will finalize a bond sale providing $2.8 million to the development of the King Edward Hotel and the Standard Life Building this week.

After undergoing a $33.5 million restoration, the 1929 Standard Life Building on Roach Street in downtown Jackson re-opens its doors today to new residents.

After purchasing the vacant Art Deco building from the city in 2009, HRI properties of New Orleans remodeled it. The building now has 2,671 square feet of retail space and 76 apartment units. Twenty-seven of the apartments are already leased, and nine residents are scheduled to move in today.

Standard Life is owned, financed and operated with the King Edward as a single unit. Watkins Partners and former New Orleans Saints running back Deuce McAllister are partners in the development.
