Philadelphia to Host National Civil Rights Conference

James Chaney, Andrew Goodman and Michael Schwerner were murdered in Mississippi in 1964 for their civil-rights activities.

The city of Philadelphia, Miss., will host the inaugural National Conference on Civil Rights June 19 through June 21.

The conference is currently seeking papers, panel topics and workshops to coincide with its theme "Rise, Advocate, Educate and Cooperate: Lessons From the Civil Rights Movement."

The National Conference on Civil Rights coincides with Annual Mississippi Civil Rights Martyrs Memorial Service: an annual event honoring three slain civil rights workers (James Earl Chaney, Andrew Goodman and Michael Schwerner) and all of Mississippi's civil rights movement martyrs.
