TGIF: The Weekend's Here!

It's shaping up to be a great weekend, weather wise. After work is the perfect time to start taking advantage of the outdoors with the Community Bike Crawl, starting at 6 p.m. in Rainbow Whole Foods Co-operative Grocery (2807 Old Canton Road) parking lot. The ride goes through downtown and ends at Sal & Mookie's on Taylor Street in Fondren. Call 601-454-1286 for more info. If you're more of an indoor person, you have lots of options, too. At 7 p.m., head to Jazz Night Live at circa. Urban Artisan Living (2771 Old Canton Road) Admission is $12. Call 601-362-8484. At 9 p.m., stop in at Dreamz JXN for "The Game Changer" for music by DJ Phingaprint and DJ Jonasty, and an appearance by actor Hosea Chanchez from "The Game." Call 601-624-4088 or 601-824-1077 for VIP information. What's the best place to begin looking for things to do in Jackson? The JFP Best Bets page, of course.

Jackson offers a whole host of reasons to get up early Saturday. At 7:30 a.m., grab the kiddies and the fishing poles and head to the JPS Fishing Rodeo and the JPS Environmental Learning Center. It's $8 in advance or $10 day of the event. At 8 a.m., join the Jackson Inner-city Gardeners for Planting Healthy Seeds and Deeds. Contact Tre Roberts at [e-mail missing] for more info. The Women in Politics Summit kicks off at 8:30 a.m. at the Old Capitol Museum, and at 9 a.m., the Mississippi Health and Wellness Expo opens at the Mississippi Trade Mart. Get the details on these events and many more (this doesn't even scratch the surface) on the JFP Events Calendar.

Grab your honey Saturday night for an evening of music. With all the options on the JFP Music Listings page, you can make it as energetic or relaxed as you want. Check out the Trans-Siberian Orchestra at the Mississippi Coliseum, Kerry Thomas at Suite 106, Roosevelt Noise at Ole Tavern or Diesel 255 at Fire. For die-hard night owls, F. Jones Corner offers entertainment until 4 a.m.

Bring in May with style Sunday by learning to cook up a fantastic Champagne brunch at the Viking Cooking School. The class starts at 11 a.m. Or, get some down home southern goodness for your ears and your mouth at the Cherokee Inn's Crawfish Boil kicking off at 2 p.m. Also at 2 p.m., catch "High Strangeness" at New Stage Theatre, part of the Eudora Welty New Play Series. Trust me: You'll find plenty more Sunday events on the JFP Events Calendar.

If Sunday's your day to kick back and relax, don't forget the many options for a great meal, from brunch to lunch to dinner, in the Jackson area. When you're undecided about an epicurean destination (or ready to try something altogether new and tasty), check the JFP Restaurant Listings and the Menu Guide for some of the area's best dining options.

Is your event included on the JFP calendars? To make sure, send the information to [e-mail missing] or [e-mail missing], or add your event yourself. It's easy!
