In his bought campaign write-up in The Northside Sun this week, Madison County Sheriff candidate Mark Sandridge amps up the anti-Jackson rhetoric that brought him massive criticism in May when he ran this campaign ad. This write-up, which the Sun gives candidates who also buy advertising in the paper, goes even further than calling Jackson one of the "most violent cities in the nation" (which is inaccurate). In this anti-Jackson diatribe, Sandridge borrows from segregationist language of old and says that Jackson—now a majority-black city—actually "threatens our schools, businesses, property values and way of life."
I intend to keep Madison County as one of the safest, most desirable communities in America. We border one of the most violent cities in the nation that threatens our schools, businesses, property values and way of life.
Obviously, we cannot afford to place deputies in every school, business and neighborhood in the county. We must attack these criminals where they are weakest—vehicle mobility.
When we deploy aggressive patrols, DUI/Drug enforcement and random safety checkpoints throughout the county, we disrupt their travel plans. As a result, these criminals know there is a high probability that—if they come into Madison County—we will apprehend them through checkpoints or at routine traffic stops.
Utilizing my federal, state and local law enforcement and keen business skills, you can expect nothing less than my very best effects to ensure the safety and security of the families and businesses throughout Madison County.

Just for fun, now click on this link. Is it possible that Sandridge has no idea that he is mimicking the language of white supremacy? With any luck, he doesn't call for an end to miscegenation in the next 24 hours.

And take a peak at this Anti-Defamation League write-up on the Council of Conservative Citizens (which was formed from the mailing lists of the Citizens Councils). Note the similarity of language to Sandridge -- not to mention a certain gubernatorial candidate: Advances its ideology by inflaming fears and resentments, among Southern whites particularly, with regard to black-on-white crime, non-white immigration, attacks on the public display of the Confederate flag, and other issues related to "traditional" Southern culture. and Trumpeting the "Southern way of life," the CCA used a traditionalist rhetoric that appealed to better-mannered, more discreet racists;

I don't know, I think I have to agree with Sandridge here. Madison has an open and porous border that is not being properly defended. Who knows what threats lurk in the highways, country roads and shipping lanes that people can freely cross in that county. Frankly, it's disturbing. Thoughts: (a.) Build a fence. And, as much as I hate to say it, you should probably consider electrifying it. Some people want to get in badly enough that they'll climb it. (b.) Inspect every cargo ship that docks in Madison. This is really non-negotiable in this day and age of international tensions. (c.) One alternative that I could really get behind is a Wal-Mart issued passport. Wal-Mart, after all, is a place that "both sides" of this argument can put our trust in and believe has our best interests at heart. (Plus maybe it could have some sort of frequent-shopper stamp that get's you a discount. Yahtzee!) (d.) Close the gunshow loophole. (Er, wait, wrong list, sorry.) (e.) If Sandridge isn't elected, maybe he can "round up a posse" or at least we could start some sort of Minuteman brigade? It's food for thought. Too bad they didn't build that Bass Pro Shop in Madison County; it could have been headquarters. The biggest disappointment in pop culture today has got to be the fact that baggy pants are going out of style; with "criminals" now wearing preppier clothing, we're either going to have to be more diligent in determining whether or not someone is actually a criminal, or we're going to have to get the upstanding citizens of Madison County to buy some decent boxers and start letting their drawers hang low.

*sigh* I think I called this one in my previous comments on this subject via the last thread. How does he intend to "keep Jackson crime out of Madison"? conveniently placed ROADBLOCKS set up at all or near entry points into Madison county. Random stops of "suspicious characters" once the sun sets. Lets just create the climate that makes Black folks feel unwelcome in our county. This stuff almost writes itself and cant be subjected to much more comment. Tired of listening to the sympathizers who say "Well, he didnt say a race. He said CRIME. Crime has no color!" Patooey! We all know full well what he means. Stop insulting the intelligence of Jacksonians and just say what you mean for crying out loud. We'll respect you more for being honest! Or at least I will.

@Kyle Warzone? Really? Youre comparing Jxn to Afghanistan?, Iraq?, Desert Storm? I know, and Im sure you know gentlemen and ladies who have bravely served in our armed forces. I think its a slight to them to compare figuratively or literally, Jackson to a warzone. Or have you seen youtube footage of what goes on in the streets of columbia, or maybe look at some footage of what went on in the streets of Los Angeles dring the height of the gang wars. Jxn has issues. REAL ones and contrary to what pundits may think, we're not just sitting back accepting it. We want the same things that the folks in Madison want. Peace and Safe Streets. And to imply that we dont care isnt helping.

War zone? Wow! Having a lot of murders doesn't equal a war zone. Plus, most victims of murders have some acquaintence with the murderer, so the likelihood of being a murder victim is rather small. Yes, crime is high here, but don't compare us to Baghdad, Kandahar, or some other war-torn city.

But, I wouldn't want to say that ALL Madison people are fake white bitches with cheap hair, tans, botox, too expensive clothes that still can't compare with local funky boutique clothes, and the list continues. And even though their latest spouse and brood of only half related kids have to come to JACKSON for good private schools, and they drink and fight every nite (but just at home, like a good Christian), they still seem like Madison Is. The. Place. To. Be... Now that gets an official yes indeed! lol!

Actually Canton, Ridgeland, and Flora, to a large degree, are good places with good people. I wish we could throw the City of Madison out of Madison County and into stankin Rankin where it belongs. The whole area used to be pretty good until trash from elsewhere invaded us. I just voted in Ridgeland and saw more republicans and signs supporting them than I care to ever see again. I actually started looking to see if anyone was hanging from a tree. Then I realized the Democratic party was hanged in Madison County decades ago. Nonetheless, I walked up in there with my loud colored shirt that says Democrats have big balls and swangs a big stick. I expected to get thrown out and make the news, but nothing happened. I hope Jimmy Houston, a real law man wins and return us back to respectability. The sand man can go to hell.

We don't want Madison in "Stankin Rankin" either Walt. Don't wish that prententious hot mess of a town on us. The Sand Man, love it! Maybe the "Sand Man" can ride the "crazy train" on out of town when he gets defeated. --Signed a Freedman Living Proud and Free in Rankin County. "Routine" traffic stops in Madison County are nothing new-neither are "checkpoints". Trowbridge was pretty well known for this as well. I know you've all heard my screaming about them in the past. During the seven years I lived in Madison, I went through a "checkpoint" at least once a month. One time, I most definitely had been drinking (forgive me, I was 24 and stupid as sh1t). They saw my Madison address on my license, that I was 24, white, cute, and they let me pull over and have my mom come pick me up. So, I'm guessing I wasn't too threatening to "their way of life" which obviously includes drunk driving-as long as you aren't black.

"They saw my Madison address on my license, that I was 24, white, cute, and they let me pull over and have my mom come pick me up." Oh, Lori G. I am so happy you didn't kill anyone or even yourself while impaired. Please don't do that, ever again. Now, getting to your point, THEY WUZ WRONG!!! And, if you had been either Black or Latina, you would still be locked up in Madison county. OBTW, their illegal and racist actions should have been recorded and blasted on YOUTUBE. :-(
