Lewis Campaign Manager Arrested Sunday for DUI

Clinton police arrested Aaron Banks, Sheriff-elect Tyrone Lewis' campaign manager, Sunday night for driving under the influence. Banks was charged with first-offense DUI after he was involved in an accident on Clinton Parkway in which alcohol was present, said Don Byington, Clinton chief of police. He has also been charged with contempt of court for failure to appear in court for an earlier traffic citation, Byington said. There were some injuries in the accident, Byington told the Jackson Free Press, although he did not know the extent because the police report was not ready as of today.

Lewis referred questions about the arrest to Banks or his legal representation. He said everyone is accountable for their own actions, and he has moved "from campaign mode to transition mode."

Abundant Spirit Glory Empowered Church's website lists Aaron B. Banks, "political consultant and grassroots organizer," as its pastor, but the church would not comment or confirm his connection when reached by phone today.

The website also says Banks founded Aaron Banks and Associates LLC, a political and grassroots organizing machine. Lewis declined to confirm whether his campaign manager was also the church's pastor. Banks did not respond to requests for comment.

WLBT erroneously reported Monday that the arrest came Friday night, the same night as Lewis' campaign celebration, but Clinton police said that was erroneous.

"Pastor and spiritual shepherd, a teacher of teachers, ministerial and business visionary, motivational speaker, political consultant and grassroots organizer Aaron B. Banks is known for his gift to empower and mobilize people to prove what is acceptable unto the Lord." That is the first sentence from the website. Gettin' yo sherf into office and drinkin & drivin in Clinton...not sure they qualify.
