Get Your Weekend Started

The weather isn't the only thing that is heating up this weekend. If you are in the mood for a night of Alfred Hitchcock and humor, check out "The 39 Steps," at New Stage Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 and $22 for students and seniors. If you'd rather practice your paintbrush stroke, head to Easely Amused in Ridgeland and learn the art of painting the Fleur-de-lis at the "Fleur" Painting Class at 7 p.m. Don't see anything that catches your fancy? Then check out the JFP Events Calendar.

If you're looking for some fresh air and healthy food Saturday, head to the Mississippi Farmers Market (929 High St.) from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Call 601-354-6573. After grabbing a nice breakfast, feel the burn at the So Fresh Hip-Hop Dance-a-Thon at Courthouse Racquet and Fitness Club (2625 Courthouse Circle, Flowood) at 12:45 p.m. Tickets are $20 for singles and $10 per person in groups of four or more. Call 601-853-7480. For an evening of charity, head to Hal & Mal's Red Room at 6:30 p.m. where the nonprofit A Rive Blue hosts a fundraiser for Northern Ugandan refugees. Taylor Hildebrand, Blue Mountain and the Kudzu Kings perform. If you want loads more fun, visit Best Bets.

Sunday is not only a great day to rest; it's also a great day to hear some local music. Head to the King Edward Hotel to listen to Howard Jones Jazz for brunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. If you want to enjoy dinner with your music, check out Mike and Marty's Jam Session at ToMara's from 4-9 p.m. Check out JFP Music Listings for more music options.

After such a busy weekend of moving and shaking, venture to local restaurants like Sal & Mookie's, Pan-Asia, or the Pizza Shack for an end-of-the-weekend meal. For more restaurant options, check out the JFP Restaurant Listings and the Menu Guide.
