A few years ago, Andrew Dunaway's sister suggested since he talked so much about food, he should start writing about it. So, he did. He interviews chefs and tries out the cuisines at restaurants throughout the South.
The Jackson Free Press named Dunaway its Freelancer of the Month for November. His features of local eateries and his photographs capture the personality of each local business.
Dunaway, 27, grew up in Madison. He lives there now and works for his family's business, Capweld Inc. After graduating from Jackson Prep, he attended George Washington University in Washington, D.C., getting a history degree in 2007.
"I wanted to go to a school outside of the South," he said.
After college, he came back to Mississippi and began working for his family's business. He says he dabbles in writing, photography, cooking and travel.
"If I had time and money, I would go to all the Michelin establishments in the world," he said. That would mean he'd have to spend a lot of time in Tokyo, he added. "And I'd have to go back to London, to Fat Dog. It's rated the top restaurant in the world."
He continues to explore new restaurants in Jackson, asking chefs and owners why they opened and what their favorite ingredients are. Be sure to look for Dunaway's upcoming features in the JFP food section and in BOOM Jackson.
