Rep. Brandon Jones Not Conceding

Rep. Brandon Jones, D-Pascagoula, posted a message on Facebook today saying he is still reviewing election totals against his opponent for the Mississippi House of Representatives, Charles Busby.

"After counting 5,926 votes, the unofficial tally shows a 35 vote difference," Jones wrote. "At this time, it is very important that we make sure every qualified vote is counted. We owe that to each person who participated in Tuesday's election. This is our first opportunity to review the process so we're going to take a short time to do that now."

Because the race is so close Jackson attorney Matt Eichelberger, who is in Pascagoula overseeing the counting of ballots, said Jones plans on reviewing the votes and predicts the results will be certified Monday.

"It's premature," he said. "This is the first time we have had an opportunity to look at the process and the election, and we are going to take a short time to do that."

The outcome of the race could determine whether the House remains Democratic or goes Republican.
