The city of Jackson will host "Walk in Their Shoes," Wednesday, Oct. 12, to educate the public about residents with disabilities.
The event is for people with and without disabilities. Those attending will have the opportunity to interact with organizations and agencies that provide services to the disabled community.
The event begins at 1 p.m. at the Jackson Medical Mall with a roundtable discussion. Participants can also understand, first-hand, the everyday challenges the disabled faces through various obstacles and role-playing.
"We want to open the gateways of understanding and allow individuals to experience the many difficulties and challenges individuals with disabilities face on a daily basis," Michael Raff, director of the city's Department of Human and Cultural Services, said in a statement. "This event will help to spread awareness and ultimately provide avenues of increased services for these brave and determined individuals."
