Unwind at Dreamz JXN for Can't Feel My Face Friday.

Sept. 2, 2011

Start the long Labor Day weekend off tonight unwinding with friends. Head to Dreamz JXN for Can't Feel My Face Friday, The Irish Frog in Clinton to hear Davey Arwine and Nick Blake or Ole Tavern for the Thomas Jackson Orchestra. To find your new favorite watering hole, check out the JFP Music Listings page for the best in Jacktown and surrounds, from MCs to rock to jazz to gospel, every day of the week.

Saturday starts college football season. Yowza! Join JFP Sports for a live chat all day long at jfpsports.com. 1:30 pm. At 1:30 p.m., Jackson State University takes on Concordia; 3:45 p.m. BYU comes to Oxford in a big out-of-conference match up with Ole Miss; and at 9 p.m., USM faces Louisiana Tech to open the season.

Football isn't the only thing happening this weekend, though. Nature buffs, lace up those hiking shoes tomorrow morning and grab the binoculars for the Jackson Audubon Society's First Saturday Bird Walk at 8 a.m. at Mayes Lake. If a seduction on the dance floor is more your style, go learn the Argentine tango tomorrow afternoon. Salsa Mississippi hosts a workshop starting at 1 p.m. In the evening, check out Afroman at Fire or Pierre Edwards at Old School 101. There's plenty more where that came from. Head to the JFP Events Calendar, whatever you're looking for, for arts, entertainment, community happenings and lots more.

Sunday is a terrific time to recharge those batteries. Start with brunch at one of the Jackson area's fine restaurants. Combine it with some light music at Fitzgerald's, Sophia's or the King Edward Hotel. Find more culinary delights on the JFP restaurant listings and the menu guide. After brunch, go wish Charles Evers a happy 89th birthday at 1 p.m. at The Plant on 80. One place to begin your search for entertainment is the JPF Best Bets page.

This Labor Day, take at least a moment or two to remember all the people in your life who worked hard to make a better world. Of course, that doesn't mean you shouldn't have a good time on your own break. Come back to the JFP for news and more happenings every day.
