Republican candidate Roger C. Davis confirmed this week that he is dropping out of the race for Hinds County District 1 supervisor against incumbent Robert Graham.

Davis is the managing partner at Woodbridge Capital Financial Portfolio Management, a financial firm in Jackson.

"My partner's wife has been diagnosed with a serious illness so my responsibilities at work are exponentially more demanding than when I filed to run," Davis said. "The party is aware of my situation."

On Tuesday, Davis said he had not officially signed the paperwork to withdraw from the race. He would not confirm if any Republicans would run in his place.

Hinds County Republican Executive Committee Chairman Pete Perry said that his party would replace Davis with another candidate for the Nov. 8 election. He said another candidate would run against Graham but could not confirm any names. During Fondren After Five Sept.1 former restaurateur John Dennery was campaigning for the post.

"He was campaigning, as have been a couple other people in places." Perry said today. "We will be dealing with that this afternoon or this weekend. ... There is nothing official on it right now."
