JACKSON, Miss.— While utility scams have been making the rounds, claiming federal dollars will pay for bills, there is a LEGITIMATE utility bill payment program run by the federal government that Entergy Mississippi and our partner, The Salvation Army, are involved with this week.
Yesterday was LIHEAP Action Day in Washington, DC, and Entergy employees took part, along with reps from the local Salvation Army chapter. LIHEAP is the federal Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program and Congress is considering further cuts to it. We asked that they return it to previous levels.
Today, Wednesday, August 1, Entergy and The Salvation Army are at the Jackson Medical Mall Foundation’s Outreach Expo 2012 to help people sign up for this LIHEAP assistance. Participants can also get free CFL lightbulbs, ‘smart’ power strips and energy-efficient tips.
What: Outreach EXPO 2012
When: Wednesday, August 1, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Where: Jackson Medical Mall
