Hearing six different bands in one night for only $15 might seem like something that would never happen, but on the day after the apocalypse, anything is possible. To celebrate its 10th Annual Holiday Showcase, Esperanza Plantation is packing tonight with music. The line-up is Johnny Bertram & the Golden Bicycles, T.B. Ledford & the Nice List Holiday Revue, El Obo, Bear Colony, Questions in Dialect and then The Weeks.
At 7 p.m. sharp, Johnny Bertram & the Golden Bicycles will take the stage in their first and only performance in Mississippi this year. This is Bertram’s first time back in the city this year, and he’s stoked. “For us, EP is kind of like family. It’s like a family reunion for us,” he says.
His most recent album, “Neon City,” came out this summer. “We’re just excited about getting to play them again. If they sound a little a different that’s probably a good thing,” Bertram says.
T.B. Ledford and the Nice List Holiday Revue follows the Golden Bicycles playing Christmas and holiday music. Chaney Nichols of Esperanza Plantation says the set will be “electrified and rockin’.”
Jesse Coppenbarger’s El Obo will then take the stage with a full band, including Drew McKercher. The set will include older songs from the debut album, “Oxford Basement Collection,” as well as new songs that Cobbenbarger will record in 2013.
The fourth act is Bear Colony, who will be supporting its November-released sophomore album, “Soft Eyes.” After that is the long-awaited return of Questions in Dialect in what Chaney calls a re-introduction. The band will play with its full, original line-up for the first time since 2004 and plans to work on new material in 2013. Daniel Guaqueta, Jonathan Blackwell and Phillip Blackwell and Matthew McGee will still have their post-rock sound and visual elements to the show, but with a few updates that Chaney is keeping secret.
Lastly, the Weeks will perform new and older favorites. The group has already finished recording its next album, scheduled for a spring release on Serpents & Snakes Records.
Hear Johnny Bertram and the Golden Bicycles, T.B. Ledford and the Nice List Holiday Revue, El Obo, Bear Colony, Questions in Dialect, and The Weeks Saturday, Dec. 22 starting at 7 p.m. at the Pix/Capri Theater (3023 N. State St.) in Fondren. The cover charge is $15.
