Staches for Stewpot's finale celebration, featuring Mustache the Band, will be held tonight from 7 p.m. until at Duling Hall.

If you've seen an unusual number of mustachioed faces around Jackson this February, it could be because this month marked the Third Annual Staches for Stewpot, a fundraiser for Stewpot Community Services in Jackson.

The event encourages participants to grow mustaches and ask for pledges from anyone who asks about their furry upper lips. Staches for Stewpot raised more than $13,000 in its first two years.

The month-long fundraiser caps off with a celebration tonight at Duling Hall (622 Duling Avenue) in Fondren. The party features live music from Oxford-based Mustache the Band and is open to anyone who would like to attend.

Entry is $20 at the door and includes two drink tickets and hors d'oeuvres provided by Julep (4500 Interstate 55, Suite 105, 601-362-1411). All proceeds go to Stewpot.

Stewpot was started in 1981 by representatives of seven churches in Jackson. The organization provides a wide range of services to the community, including shelter, clothing, counseling and children's programs.

Stewpot offers a noon lunch at the Community Kitchen to anyone, no questions asked, 365 days a year. At the Food Pantry, Stewpot supplies carefully-screened applicants with four days worth of food.

Matt's House, located at 343 Adelle St., provides emergency, overnight shelter to women and children, and the Billy Brumfield House provides shelter for up to 50 men per night, as well as homeless and special-needs programs.

For information contact Stewpot Community Services at 601-353-2759.
