Economic Jeffery Sachs notes that Reagan's "War on Government" -- and the 30+ year experiment of low taxation for the wealthy and deregulation of financial markets has led to serious income inequality and national competitiveness.
I encourage you to watch the whole thing, even if Reagan is some sort of equivalent to a pagan god for you. It's only a few minutes long, but it does a great job of helping us understand why things in this country only feel "good" for a small percentage of households.
There's power in the idea that this country gives people not just a hope and a prayer of one day being rich and famous, but rather that the country gives everyone a chance to improve their lot in life if they work hard and play by the rules. But you can't have it both ways... over the last three decades, the rules have been re-stacked against most Americans. Now is the time to do something about it.
