City Residents: Sign Up for CodeRED Weather Warnings

[Verbatim statement] The City of Jackson reminds residents to sign up for the CodeRED Weather Warning high-speed notification system.

“We urge citizens to sign up for this important service,” said Mayor Harvey Johnson, Jr. “It is hurricane season and we are prone to severe weather during this time of year.”

The CodeRED Weather Warning system is a FREE opt-in only weather warning product that taps into the National Weather Service’s Storm Based Warnings. CodeRED Weather Warning automatically alerts affected citizens in the path of severe weather just moments after a warning has been issued.

The CodeRED Weather Warning feature requires residents to sign up to be called. Residents can sign up to be alerted in the cases of tornado warnings, severe thunderstorm warnings, and flash flood warnings. Residents may opt to sign up to be notified for one type or all three types of warnings. They can also modify their settings online at any time.

Residents’ Caller ID’s will read Emergency Communications Network or 866-419-5000 for CodeRED calls. And for CodeRED Weather Warning calls, either Emergency Communications Network or the number 800-566-9780 will appear on Caller ID displays.

CodeRED Community Notification Enrollment

The city urges all individuals and businesses to log onto the City of Jackson’s website www.jacksonms.gov, and follow the link to the "CodeRED Community Notification Enrollment” page. Those without Internet access may call 3-1-1 Monday through Friday, (7:30AM-5:30 PM) to supply their information over the phone. Required information includes first and last name, street address (physical address, no P.O. boxes), city, state, zip code, and primary phone number, additional phone numbers can be entered as well.

CodeRED allows geographically based delivery, which means street addresses are required to ensure emergency notification calls are received by the proper individuals in a given situation. The system works for cell phones too, but we need to have an associated street address to provide relevant messages.

CodeRED gives those who want to be included an easy and secure method for inputting information. The data collected will only be used for emergency notification purposes.

CodeRED is only accepting sign-ups for Jackson citizens and businesses.
