This week is AmeriCorps Week, a national effort designed to raise awareness of the AmeriCorps national community service program.
Gov. Phil Bryant signed a proclamation for Mississippi to recognize AmeriCorps Week this year on March 10-18, along with the rest of the nation. The Mississippi Commission for Volunteer Service will host events at the Capitol tomorrow to mark the occasion. AmeriCorps alumni and current members will share their stories and bring awareness of the program.
AmeriCorps is a program that matches young people with community service opportunities around the country in exchange for funding for education. Over 2,600 Mississippi national service members are paid workers through programs such as AmeriCorps, and national service ranks as one of Mississippi's top 15 employers.
