The Werks will perform at Martin's Bar and Lounge tonight to promote its new self-titled album. Here are a few facts about the band.
- The Werks is a psychedelic dance rock band, meaning that they fuse sounds together such as jazz and rock.
- The band name means that the band is a little bit of everything—kind of like a sandwich with everything on it—including several genres.
- The Werks is made up of vocalist and bassist Dino Dimitrouleas, keyboardist Norman Dimitrouleas, guitarist Chris Houser and drummer Rob Chasin.
- The Grateful Dead, Phish, Rush, Led Zeppelin, the Beatles and James Brown are just some of The Werks’ influences, but each of the members has different tastes in music.
- This will be The Werks’ second time playing in Jackson this year. They played at Martin’s then as well.
- Dino Dimitrouleas prides the band on having unique shows. “Each show is just for that town and just for those people in that town, and that’s what makes each show special,” he says.
- The band is currently on its “Funemployment Tour.”
- Last weekend, the band hosted the Werkout Music Festival in Legend Valley in Ohio.
The Werks perform at 10:30 p.m. tonight at Martin’s Bar (214 S. State St., 601-354-9712).
