In November, the British Invasion is coming to the city of Jackson.

The Jackson Choral Society will hold its fall concert, "The British Are Coming," at the St. Phillips Episcopal Church (5400 Old Canton Road, 601-956-5788) Nov. 21 at 7:30 p.m.

The choir will perform music from several great British composers such as George Handel, William Byrd, Hubert Parry and Benjamin Britten, the centerpiece of the program. The society will perform Britten's song "Rejoice in the Lamb," in addition to singing folk songs from the U.K., such as "'O Whistle and I'll Come to Ye," "Danny Boy" and a contemporary version of the English song, "The Water is Wide."

"I chose this program because it celebrates the centennial of Benjamin Britten, since he was born Nov. 22, 1913," says Nancy Moore, the artistic director and conductor of the Jackson Choral Society. "He's the most widely performed British 20th-century composer, and the music from the British Isles seemed like the natural choice."

Moore adds that the fall concert has a lot to offer concert-goers.

"The choral society is a fine organization of singers, and this music represents the best composers that have ever come from the British Isles. The styles that we're doing, there will be something for everyone, from the Renaissance all the way to The Beatles," Moore says.

Purchase tickets from any Jackson Choral Society member or mail a request to the organization at 5025 Highway 80, Pearl. The event is $10 for adults and $8 for senior citizens and students.
