"(Clarion-Ledger Assistant Managing Editor) Sam Hall's failure to do his job contributed to the death of Mark Mayfield."
—Conservative Blogger Charles C. Johnson reiterated this statement to a group of tea-party members at a speaking event on Aug. 11.
Why it Stinks: This is just plain mean. Johnson, who calls himself a journalist, shouldn't want to open up this can of worms—because while journalism can certainly have great impact, it's dangerous to link one's journalist's action or inaction to every event, and it's just idiotic to make that link in a situation as complex as this. By his logic, wouldn't he, too, have had a hand?
