Miss. Mulls Modest Fine for Texting While Driving

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — The Mississippi Senate has voted to make texting a driving a crime—but not much of one.

Senate Bill 2434 says anyone caught sending a text message or checking a social media site while driving can be charged with careless driving.

Conviction would carry a fine of anywhere from $5 to $50.

The bill passed the Senate on Wednesday and moves to the House for more debate.
