Stinker Quote of the Week: 'Hip-Hop'

"(Hip-hop is) a culture that values prison more than college ... a culture that can't stand education. It's that culture that can't get control of itself."

—State Sen. and U.S. Senate candidate Chris McDaniel, in an audio clip Mother Jones magazine published last week in which he rails against hip-hop culture.

Why it stinks: To disprove McDaniel's misinformation about the value hip-hop places on education, one could go back to Darryl McDaniels' verse on Run DMC's "Sucker MCs," where he proudly raps, "Since kindergarten I acquired the knowledge. And after 12th grade I went straight to college." Actually, the list of hip-hop artists who attended college is quite long, as is the list of prestigious American colleges and universities that now offer courses in hip-hop studies. We could go on and on, but we'll just paraphrase Naughty By Nature: If you don't know about hip-hop, don't talk about hip-hop.
