There's never a slow news week in Jackson, Miss., and last week was no exception. Here are the local stories JFP reporters brought you in case you missed them:

1. Mississippi's largest city and state capital finally passed a resolution affirming equality for all citizens, including the LGBT community.
2. Jackson Police Chief Lindsey Horton said the mayor’s office has given JPD a green light for additional overtime related to crime reduction in the city.
3. Alignment Jackson, which encourages businesses and nonprofits to support Jackson Public Schools, now has a strong ally in founding member and former principal Mayor Tony Yarber.
4. Bob Moses helped end Jim Crow in Mississippi 50 years ago. He still wants equality in education.
5. The fate of abortion clinics in four southern states falls in the hands of federal appeals courts that are currently hearing cases and deciding on the constitutionality of laws that increase requirements for abortion providers.
6. Swedish retailer H&M opened its first Mississippi location at noon Thursday, June 5, at Northpark Mall.
7. Three more men have been indicted for their alleged participation in a May 2012 riot at a federal prison in Adams County.
8. A resolution recognizing the dignity and worth of all people in Magnolia, Miss., including people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender, could become a casualty of small-town politics.
9. After coming in second place behind Chris McDaniel by just 1,386 votes, Thad Cochran's base—which consists of establishment Republicans—is deflated and may not even show up for the June 24 runoff.
