JMG and Regions Start Work Mentorship Project

Jobs for Mississippi Graduates is partnering with Regions Bank to develop a mentorship program for students at Murrah High School (1400 Murrah Drive). JMG is an affiliate of the Jobs for America's Graduates Program, a state-based national non-profit organization dedicated to preventing dropouts among at-risk and disadvantaged youth. JMG has sites in 43 schools across Mississippi.

The JMG Regions Mentorship Program is designed to link at-risk youth at Murrah High School with Regions Financial Corporation executives in an effort to eradicate academic underachievement, risky health behaviors and low self-esteem in students while enhancing socialization, productivity and charitable giving of Regions executives.

The program will pair adult professionals with identified JMG students at Murrah. The professionals will provide academic remediation, guidance, career counseling and emotional support to students. In addition, Regions executives will provide real-time, work-based learning opportunities and implementation of employability skills to help JMG participants remain in school and graduate.

A meeting of members of the Regions-JMG Mentorship Project and Murrah High School mentees will take place Wednesday, March 19, at 10 a.m. in the Murrah High School Library. For information, call 601-978-1711. Learn more about JMG at jmgms.org or jag.org.

St. Dominic's Offers Pulmonary Telemedicine Service

Last week, St. Dominic’s (969 Lakeland Drive) announced an expanded partnership with REACH Health Inc. that will allow the hospital to connect lung specialists with acute care pulmonary patients—such as those suffering from collapsed lungs, severe asthma attacks, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or pulmonary embolisms—across the state.

“Our multiservice telemedicine platform will give our rural hospital partners direct access to a pulmonary specialist,” Cris Bourn, St. Dominic's neuroscience/orthopedic service line administrator, said in a release. “This means that pulmonary patients will be able to receive excellent specialty care at their local community hospital, near their families and loved ones.”

Intubation and mechanical ventilation are commonplace in hospital intensive care units, but because ventilators carry the risk of serious lung damage and delayed negative effects, consultation with a pulmonologist is valuable. Pulmonary patients especially require ventilator management—determining the proper airflow, pressure and volume for each patient to ensure the optimal respiratory rate.

The REACH Access Platform allows emergency department clinicians and consulting physicians to conduct joint examinations and share critical medical data and images. REACH Health was a pioneer in telestroke and now provides one enterprise telemedicine solution for multiple specialties, with pulmonary, psychiatry, cardiology, neurology and ICU services.

For information, call St. Dominic's at 601-200-2000.
