Entergy Mississippi to Cut Rates as Natural Gas Costs Fall

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Only months after Entergy Mississippi customers got a break on electricity bills because of falling natural gas prices, they're likely to get another.

Mara Hartmann, a spokeswoman with the unit of New Orleans-based Entergy Corp., said Monday that natural gas prices kept falling after bills were cut in September.

Pending approval by the Mississippi Public Service Commission, monthly bills for residential customers who use 1,000 kilowatt hours would fall from $100 to $93 in February.

Hartmann says Entergy has collected $48 million too much for natural gas in 2015, even after the earlier $46 million rate decrease.

Under state law, utilities get to recover fuel costs, but aren't supposed to profit.

The smaller Mississippi Power Co. also announced last week that it would cut rates on lower natural gas prices.
