If you enjoy the mix of tanginess, spice and sweetness that is Thai food, you'll soon have another option to choose from in Jackson. Surin of Thailand (3000 Old Canton Road) opens soon in the former Nick's Restaurant space.
The restaurant opened in Atlanta in 1990, with additional locations in Birmingham, Ala., Huntsville, Ala., Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Knoxville, Tenn.
If you've never had Thai food, Surin is a good place to start. Its vast menu caters to almost anyone and varies between locations, from the pad see u tofu, with Thai rice noodles sauteed with eggs, broccoli, garlic and Thai soy sauce, to the ginger-shitake salmon with bell peppers, Pacific mussels and shrimp. A fundamental taste of Thai food, besides sour, sweet, salty and bitter, is, of course, spiciness, so if you want something spicy, Surin rates a few of its dishes with one to three peppers.
For vegetarians (or carnivores) who want a little spice, try Surin's Thai coconut soup with tofu, shrimp or chicken. The restaurant includes many other dishes to satisfy both the unfamiliar and discerning palates.
No opening date is set, but one is expected in the next several weeks.
